Injury Assessment & Management
Sporting injuries are generally caused by overuse, direct impact, or the application of force that is greater than that particular body part can withstand. Types of sporting injuries are separated into two categories – acute and chronic. Central Hunter Sports Medicine has the knowledge and skill set to effectively assess and manage your injury.
Acute vs Chronic
Acute injuries are caused by sudden impacts. Such as a sprained ankle, which was caused by landing awkwardly. Often you experience a sharp pain immediately after the incident – which can hang around. An acute injury can become a chronic injury if early diagnosis and management is not received.
Chronic can be the result of injuries that do not heal well and create muscle imbalances, such as weakness or tightness. These injuries can also be the result of poor habits over time, such as abnormal walking/running patterns, training errors, improper footwear, or poor lower extremity alignment.
Investigating an Injury
It is integral you get a professional to assess your injury, as it can be much more severe than initially assumed. Without the correct management, the injury can cause long term problems, such as limiting your movement.
If you have a niggling injury that just won’t go away, or injured yourself in a sporting event, come and see CHSM for assessment, advise and/or treatment of your injury. We work to identify the cause and severity of the injury, and advise ongoing treatment options for all types of musculoskeletal injuries.
